Railways seek mechanism
to monitor works


THIRUVANANTHAPURAM : A high-level monitoring mechanism between the Railways and the State government has been proposed to review the development works undertaken by the Railways and sort out issues.

General Manager, Southern Railway, M.S. Jayanth, who called on Chief Minister V. S. Achuthanandan at his office on Thursday, made this suggestion. Mr. Jayanth briefed the Chief Minister about the ongoing projects and pointed out the constraints faced by the Railways in executing them.

The State should expedite the work connected with road over-bridges. The record of railway construction activity was coming down in the State.

He presented a road map for completing works related to doubling (41 km) and gauge conversion (45 km) for 2009-10 in the State. Minister for Law and Parliamentary Affairs M. Vijayakumar, who is also in-charge of the Railways, was also present. Mr. Jayanth also called on Minister for Public Works. P. J. Joseph.

The General Manager also met Chief Secretary, Neela Gangadharan and held discussions.
