Rlys contracts Mumbai firm to sell ad space

New Delhi : After its successful campaign with Blue Billion and Kurkure Express, Indian Railways is now ready to greet passengers with more corporate brands.

The railways has entered into a five-year agreement with Peacock Media for advertising rights in trains such as Shatabdi and Rajdhani chugging across the country.

As per the pact, the out-of-home advertising company, will sell advertisement space to corporate houses in return for fixed fee payable to the railways.

To begin with, Peacock will advertise on Delhi-Amritsar Swarn Shatabdi and Rajdhani trains between New Delhi and Chennai, Trivandrum and Banglore from this year end.

Peacock will have to fork out Rs 50 lakh per rake every year to the railways for Delhi-Amritsar Swarn Shatabdi. It will have to pay Rs 33 lakh per rake for Rajdhani trains every year.

The fee will be revised every year, beginning with 10 per cent to maximum 25 per cent during the five-year contract period. “We will earn Rs 16.81 crore in five years through this contract. We had initiated the pilot project two years back,” a railway ministry official, requesting annonimity , said.

Besides a fixed income, the railways will also save significantly in maintenance cost. The contract includes upgrading of passenger services by Peacock Media onboard.
