It's a 1000 overhauling at Perambur Loco Works

CHENNAI : Southern Railway General Manager Deepak Krishna on Thursday flagged off the 1000th overhauled AC electric locomotive by the Loco Works, Perambur.

Complimenting the workers for achieving the distinction of overhauling 1,000 electric locomotives, Mr.Krishna said he was happy to note that locos overhauled by the Perambur unit had the minimum number of failures. Though the workshop was striving hard to achieve the Railway Board’s benchmark of 24 days for overhauling electric locomotives, the crew prefer Perambur shops for periodic overhauling of the locos. He wanted the Chief Workshop Manager to work out adequate methodology to reduce the overhauling time. He also announced a group
award of Rs.40,000 to the workers of the workshop.

V. Carmelus, Chief Mechanical Engineer, said the Board had sanctioned Rs. 56 crore modernisation plans for the workshop which would be executed in a period of two and a half years. The workshop was also given the privilege of overhauling the existing steam locomotives in Indian Railways to keep them as heritage engines.

N.K.Toppo, Chief Workshop Manager, said the workshop which was started in 1932 for periodic overhauling of steam locomotives, was subsequently converted into a POH workshop for electric locomotives. Now it was the only workshop in Indian Railway which had achieved ISO
9001:2000, ISO 14001 and OHSAS 18001:2007 certifications.

The CWM, Sri N.K.Toppo is certainly stiving his all out best efforts to reduce the POH cycle of Electric Loco. He will certainly achieve the targets. My all good wishes to him and his workshop team.
