IN FREIGHT EARNINGS DURING FIRST QUARTER
Mumbai : Western Railway has registered a freight loading of 14.52 Million Tonnes which is 38.2 % more as compared to the loading of 10.51 Million tone in the corresponding period of last year and also 22.3% more than the proportionate target of 11.87 Million Tonne. This is significant considering the recessionary trends observed by the industries all around.
Western Railway’s freight earnings have shot up by 48.38 per cent during the first quarter of the year 2009-10 .The Railway’s gross earnings have been Rs. 2007.86 Crore during this period as compared to Rs.1542.5 Crore last year.
During this period, among the major commodities, the increase in coal loading was 185.3 %, Iron and Steel 75 % and Cement 44.8 % .
