WR Conducts Intensive

Drive Against Trepassing


Western Railway today conducted an intensive drive against trespassing with the help of RPF at Andheri Railway station in which more than 300 commuters were counselled to use foot over bridges instead of crossing the tracks. The commuters were also requested to refrain from trespassing through public announcement system. Meanwhile 103 persons, who crossed the tracks despite counseling and warning, were caught and presented in the court of Hon’ble Judicial Magistrate First Class at Andheri. 93 persons paid a fine of Rs. 46,500/- while 10 persons were sent to Jail for five days.

Continuing its drive against trespassing, about 40 RPF personnel were deployed at Andheri station not only to counsel the commuters against trespassing but also to prevent them from crossing tracks.

In spite of conducting drives and staging street plays, people continue to risk their precious lives by crossing the Railway tracks. Therefore, to curb the menace to trespassing, this intensive drive will be conducted at Andheri station for two more days before extending it to the other stations.

During the month of May 2009, a total number of 146841 cases of ticketless/irregular travel including unbooked luggage were detected on Western Railway, resulting into recovery of Rs.498.32 lakh which is 52.91% more than the corresponding month of the last year. Similarly, 344 cases of illegal transfer of reserved tickets were detected and an amount of Rs.264173/- was realised. During the same period, 1455 beggars and unauthorised hawkers were apprehended, out of which 922 were evicted from Railway premises. 57 were charged and an amount of Rs.16134/- was realized as Railway dues. 476 persons were prosecuted of which 453 persons were fined and an amount of Rs.36500/- was collected as fine and 23 persons were sent to jail.

During May 2009, 158 checks were conducted against touts and other unsocial elements. As a result, 550 persons were apprehended and prosecuted under Indian Railway Act, 1989 out of which 538 persons were fined and an amount of over Rs.43985/- was recovered from them. 12 persons were sent to jail. During this period, 848 beggars were removed from Railway premises. Western Railway appeals to its esteemed commuters to travel with proper ticket.
