HEIGHT OF 40 PF OF WR
SUBURBAN Stn. TO BE RAISED

Mumbai : Following specific instructions by Shri R.N. Verma, General Manager, Western Railway has initiated the process for raising of platforms on its suburban stations on a large scale. Work of raising of 40 platforms has been sanctioned at 19 stations (See Annexure) at an approx cost of Rs.8.5 Cr.

There are a total of 139 platforms between Churchgate to Virar out of which 40 platforms do not have adequate height. The work of raising of the height of all these 40 platforms have recently been sanctioned. While the work of raising platform No. 1&4 at Churchgate, platform No.2&3 at Mahalaxmi, platform No. 1&2 at Elphinstone Road, Platform No.3&4 at Mahim, platform No.3&4 at Santacruz, platform No.3&4 at Vile Parle and platform No.1 at Nalasopara is under initial tendering process, the contract for the raising of platform Nos.4&5 at Borivali has already been awarded. The process for work of raising platforms at other stations is being initiated.

There has been a demand from the commuters to raise the platforms. WR had also received feedback from many commuters about this issue which was reviewed by the WR GM Shri R.N. Verma in a high level meeting. Looking at the inconvenience to the commuters on this account, it was decided to take up this issue on priority basis among the passenger amenities items.
