WRMS : SAFETY SEMINAR

Mumbai : A seminar on “Safety” was organized by Western Railway Mazdoor Sangh, Mumbai Division on 5.10.2009 at Rail Nikunj, Mumbai Central. This was the second seminar organized by WRMS after Vadodara. The seminar was attended over 450 delegates from different places of Mumbai Division. The seminar was inaugurated by Shri B.B.Modgil, GM/C.Rly by lighting the lamps alongwith Shri R.P.Bhatnagar, Working President/NFIR & Shri J.G.Mahurkar, General Secretary/WRMS.

Other dignitaries like Shri C. R. Menon, General Secretary/WREU, Shri R.S.Chugh, AGM/WR, Shri G. C. Agarwal, PCE/WR, Shri A. K. Malhotra, CEE/WR, Shri Kaushal Kishore, CME/WR, Shri Amitabh Lal, COM/WR, Shri Garg, CSO/WR, Shri Bhattachariya, CPO/WR, Shri C.P.Sharma, DRM/BCT & other so many Officers from HQ & Division were present in the Seminar.

Shri R.N.Verma, GM/WR is kind enough to attend the seminar inspite of his ill health. Shri J.G. Mahurkar, GS/WRMS during his inaugural address has emphasized on filling the vacancy of safety categories including the post of 40000 Gangman on priority by reviving the existing recruitment process. He also highlighted on improvement of Running room including Vasai Station & Subordinate Rest House in BCT as lot of complaint have been received about bugs in the bed.

Shri B.B.Modgil, GM/CR & Shri R.N.Verma, GM/WR both have been urged to improve safety through man-machine interaction, easier operating system by reducing the need for human dependence in maintenance & operation. Advocating the safety measures both the GM have assured regarding timely replacement of over-aged assets, adoption of suitable technologies for upgradation and maintenance of track, measurement of overstressing of track and bridges, rolling stock, signaling and interlocking systems, safety drives and inspections at regular intervals to monitor and educate staff for observance of safe practices.

There was a Group discussion of various departments including Engineering, Mechanical, Operating, S&T etc through various session. All the Officers i.e. Departmental Head of BCT Division were attended the session & appreciated the problem faced by the employee at the grass root level which needs to attended.

The whole day Seminar had detailed deliberations and active participation of all the delegates from various departments and came up with a set of recommendations, which were presented by Shri Ajay Kumar Singh, Divisional Secretary, WRMS/Mumbai Division. The Seminar concluded on an optimistic note of the increased public awareness towards Railway safety and hoped that the deliberations would be a step forward in contributing towards a safer Railway.
