CENTRAL RAILWAY CRACKS DOWN

ON TICKETLESS TRAVELLERS

Mumbai : Central Railway has always been persistent in curbing ticketless / unauthorised travel through its massive checking drives to make the travel of bonafide passengers more comfortable.

In September 2009, Central Railway detected 1.14 lakh cases of ticketless / irregular travel including unbooked luggage as against 1.02 lakh cases detected in September 2008. Amount realised from these cases in September 2009 is Rs. 3.68 crore, as against Rs, 3.07 crore during the corresponding period of last year, thus showing an increase of 11.5%.

During the current year from April to September 2009, in all 7.06 lakh cases of ticketless / irregular travel including unbooked luggage have been detected as against 6.57 lakh cases detected during the same period of last year. Amount realised from these cases during the current year is Rs. 24.82 crore as against Rs. 21.46 crore during the corresponding period of last year, thus showing an increase of 15.66%

Central Railway appeals to the passengers to travel with proper and valid tickets in order to avoid inconvenience.
