Udhampur-Srinagar Rail Project

Jammu to Udahmpur: completed 4 years ago.

UHP-KTR (udahmpur katra) 25 km strech involving 10.5 km tunnels is being constructed now. Problematic tunnel T1 has been realigned, and now they will start digging the new tunnel to be shorter by 1.8 kms (the previous one which collapsed 2 times and showed crakcs the 3rd time was 3.1 km long). Jhajjar khud bridge 307 metres long and 95 m high (single pier) was completed 2 years ago. It is taller than Panvalnadi viaduct. This section will now be completed in July 2012.

Katra to Laole: entire project has been suspended, contracts have been short terminated with KR and they have realigned some 12 km of Surukot section. Chenab bridge will be built at that height (359 metres high). As per my estimations it would take 12 more years for this section to get completed.

Laole to Qazigund: work in progress at snail's pace, little less than 7 km of 10.9 km long Pir panjal tunnel (t80) digging has been done. Other tunnels (t58-t79) work is on.

Qazigund to Anantnag: tracklaying done, stations building done, approach road to Sadura (betwen Qazigund and Anantnag) remaining.

Anantnag to Rajwantshehr: already in operation.

Rajwantshehr to Baramulla: tracklaying done, station buildings and approach roads being built work in full swing. May expect entire Qazigund Baramulla strech (112 km) to open by August.
