GRP forms squads to nab 'MNS' train vandals

"The railways have been inundated by calls from commuters complaining of the abusive graffiti against north Indians inside local trains of both Western and Central Railway"

The obvious agitations by the Maharashtra Navnirman Sena's against north Indians may have died down, but the parties activists still seem to be on the job. Abusive graffiti against north Indians, and signed by 'MNS' have been appearing on all Central and Western local trains.
Worried about the rising number of commuter complaints against the offensive graffiti, the Government Railway Police (GRP) has been forced to form task is to find and arrest the mischief-mongers. Those caught will be severely dealt with under the Indian Penal Code and the Bombay Police Act, said the senior police inspector of Bandra GRP, Ashok Survegandh.
He said, "We have formed a squad of sleuths who will be commuting in plain clothes to keep a tab on commuters writing such slogans. However, we are yet to make any arrest. Our squad will be constantly on the move to catch the culprits red-handed."
An official from the Railway Protection Force said on condition of anonymity, "Since there are many bogie's in which the slogans have been written, and there is a similarity in the slogans in the western and central line trains, it is obvious that there is one person behind this."
During the past few days, the GRP and the RPF control rooms have received innumerable calls complaining about the abusive slogans written against north Indians and the Railway minister. On Thursday, the GRP control room sent out a message to all its police stations to form these squads.
Railway PRO(Western) S S Gupta said, "I have no idea about the slogans written or the GRP action but the offence amounts to defacing of public property and causing nuisance.
"The offenders will be dealt according to law of the Railways."
Railway PRO (Central) A K Singh said, "It is a nuisance. We have asked the workshops to clean up these slogans either by wiping them off or by painting them over. The matter will be dealt with by the GRP."
