Seminar on High Speeds on Railways
The International Technical Seminar on 'High Speed Corridors and Higher Speeds on existing network on Indian Railways' conducted by Institution of Permanent Way Engineers (India) under the aegis of the Ministry of Railways was inaugurated by Hon'ble Minister of State for Railways Shri Naranbhai J. Rathwa. In his inaugural address, Shri Rathwa highlighted the need for high Speed on Railways to meet the growing passenger traffic demand and to increase revenue for the Railways. Shri S.K.Vij, Member Engineering, Railway Board, in his keynote address, mentioned that keeping in view the high economic rate of return of high speeds lines, discussions have been held with various State Governments, who would be major beneficiaries of high speed lines. Participation of State Governments would greatly facilitate the project development process. Shri B. B. Modgil, General Manager, Central Railway, in his welcome address, mentioned that the seminar would be helpful in disseminating and sharing the technical knowledge on high speed issues.
A technical exhibition displaying various developments in track technology was also inaugurated by Member Engineering, Railway Board in the morning. This exhibition shall be open for two days.
Five technical sessions have been planned during the seminar covering various disciplines of Engineering. About eight hundred delegates from different Zonal centres of Railways including those from foreign countries have come to attend the seminar.
