LALU QUIETLY HIKED
RAIL FREIGHT RATES
New Delhi : Ahead of the interim rail budget, the railway ministry has quietly hiked the freight rates of foodgrains, pulses and flour by 8.3o%. The hike has been carried out by revising the classification of these goods through a circular issued by the railways. The revised rates will be effective from February 1. ''There will be an increase of 8.30% per tonne in freight rates for these goods from February.'' a railway board official said.
Corrently, the freight rate of a tonne of foodgrains is Rs. 694.10 for a distance of 1000 km., which will be hiked to Rs. 751.90 per 1000 km. The freight charges of chemical manure have also been revised. Lalu prasad yadav wil present the vote on account on February 13 in the Lok Sabha and is unlikely to tinker with the freight and rail fares.
HC came down heavily on the railways
Mumbai : The Mumbai High Court sought a report from Central Railway and Western Railway on the issue of providing timely medical aid to victims of railway accidents. The HC came down heavily on the both railways for not complying with court orders to transport victims within an hour of the accident.
